LOW FAT
(background is microphoto of toilet paper)
It all began in the early 90's when a top-notch
medical researcher reported his randomized
controlled trial results. The key finding was
that a low-fat, fiber-rich diet cut the heart-
disease and risk of death from all causes
by almost half. This study became an
instant classic--it was cited more than
225 times--and the low fat diet became
the institutional gold-standard for
cardiologists.
More studies sprang from the results.
And tens of thousands of heart patients
were made miserable trying desperately
to adhere to a low-fat diet. Yet during all
that time, everyone was unaware that it was
all made up! You read that correctly. It
means made up--as in concocted.
But most importantly nothing was done
to stop the mad prescribing of a low-fat
diet by doctors everywhere, which goes
on unabated even today.
