HOMOCYSTEIN--SOME FACTS FROM SECOND OPINION
NEWSLETTER BY ROBERT J. ROWEN, MD, MAR 17, 2006
1. The chemical is called homocystein.
2. Your body produces it normally. However, if you
have deficient levels of certain B vitamins, homo-
cystein will build up and cause problems. High levels
may result in artherosclerosis, which can lead to a
heart attack.
3. And now, rersearch is connecting high levels of
homocystein with macular degeneration. They found
that levels above 12 mmol were associated with
macular degeneration.
4. You can bring homocystein levels down with a
cocktail of vitamins B6(100 mg), B12(by injection),
folic acid(800 mcg), and DMG(100 Mcg) or TMG(500 mg)
taken daily.
5. I've found that supplemental vitamin B12 is the
most beneficial of the group. There are new and effective
oral B12 supplements.
